Information for prospective students:
Teaching Philosophy:
For students of all levels, a musical instrument can be a vehicle for artistic expression. As
a teacher, it is my duty to not only help students learn to express themselves musically, but also
to help them develop proper technique so they are free to make music. As such, I feel it is extremely
important for students to develop good playing habits as early as possible. I am very detailed in
my approach to lessons and will strive to help students learn to hear the small nuances that can
separate a good player from a great one. In lessons, we will study any music that the student brings
(band, orchestra, or audition material) in addition to standard repertoire to which the student should
be introduced.
About the Studio:
Students in the horn studio will have an opportunity to take private lessons on a weekly basis.
Although students are recommended to take one-hour lessons to ensure there is time to make significant
progress, there are also 30 minute lessons available. Parents and guardians are always welcome and even
encouraged to observe lessons. Students in the studio will also have the opportunity to play in studio
recitals, which will help develop performance skills, allow younger students to hear and learn from more
advanced players, and give family and friends a chance to hear the result of the students’ hard work.
