8/24/07: Warm-Ups Continued from the Previous Page. And while this may seem like a long list of tasks to fit into a warm-up, it is important to view the warm-up as a practice session. It would be easy to go through the motions and play through all of your selected warm-up exercises every day, but if one truly tries to improve the way they play these exercises every day, there is no way they won’t make steady improvements in their regular playing. For young horn students, development and implementation of a good daily warm-up is probably the most important thing they can do to see long-term improvement in their overall horn playing. It is my hope that if you are reading this and have never developed a warm-up, or if your warm-up does not include some major aspects of horn playing, you will head over to the Music Files page and use my warm-up exercises to develop your own daily routine. Check back next week and we’ll develop a balanced daily routine that covers all the major aspects of playing in an order that still serves as a good warm-up. Looking for a past article?
